“The drive to tell stories of humanity runs deep within me. I worked many years as a journalist, including for the Ventura County Star, and fulfilled that need with words. After being embedded with the Port Hueneme Seabees in Iraq in 2003, it became clear to me that words were not enough to tell the stories I needed to express. Inspired by a show at Doyon Studio & Gallery I discovered painting, which has consumed me ever since. Now I layer ink, collage and paint to tell raw tales of loneliness, joy, pain and triumph, in short of being human. I venture beyond objects and objectivity in search of the elusive truth of our individual and collective soul as I paint outside the lines.”

Phyllis Doyon is an artist, teacher, demonstrator, curator and owner of Doyon Studio & Gallery in Camarillo. She paints hundreds of works each year with passion. Her inner voice says “Work”. Style and subject vary as the creative process pushes her but color is evident. Her art is large, it is small, it is traditional, it is abstract, but always with a sense of urgency.

RON LIBBRECHT, Lakewood
Ron began painting at age 12. He now holds an MFA, teaches, leads plein air workshops in Europe and owns APC Fine Arts Gallery in Torrance, California.
“My recent work involves painting and drawing regional subject matter. My work is both plein air painting and studio work. The combination is gratifying with the hands on painting of the place and exploration of ideas, realizing new relations in the studio. The series of regional area work, meets a new boundary, exploring and discovering the place and making new inventive marks. The drawings and paintings record the moment and idea about the place creating a new representation for the viewer to experience.”

WILLELLYN MCFARLAND, Downey Willellyn has been interested in art as long as she can remember. She earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree in painting from University of Southern California and has since taught both youth and adults. She is a signature member and past president of the National Watercolor Society. Her work has been published in “The Artist’s Magazine” and other publications.
“Color is the dominant theme in most of my paintings, I enjoy experimenting with a variety of techniques, always seeking beauty in the chosen subject matter and hoping that the viewer will react in a positive way to my work.”

“I paint because I enjoy it and find it an inspiring means of communication. My artistic journey has been pretty much self-directed thus far, as I am inclined to pursue processes that interest me.
When I paint, I try to function in a place of playful spontaneity that produces a freshness in the work that I hope will remind viewers of joyful times in their own lives. At the moment I am in a phase of self-reflection and am exploring new ways of addressing personal experiences that I hope will have relevance for others.”
